Parent - Child Alert Setting#970

?

In many cases you may want to monitor individual websites on the same server. If there is a server-level issue, it will cause all the websites to be inaccessible. But also there is the possibility of having an issue with an individual website but not the server.

Your software is very well designed and you’re not a new company. So I’m surprised in the advanced monitor settings there isn’t an option for:

“Disable notifications if parent monitor [monitor drop down list selection] is offline”

So if the parent server is down, you don’t get bombarded with all the individual website monitor alerts that are hosted on that server.

I think the only slightly tricky thing is you would need to ensure that any monitor that has this setting enabled does not run a check right before or at the same time as the parent monitor. I think to get around this you may need to dynamically change the shortest period for the delay dropdown selection to be 1 minute greater than what the parent monitor is set at.

So for example, if the parent monitor delay alert was “instant” the a monitor enabling the option to disable alerts if the parent monitor is down would only allow down to a 1-minute delay setting. If the parent monitor was set to 2 minutes delay, the lowest setting to choose from for a monitor specifying that monitor as a parent monitor would be 3 minutes.

There may be a more elegant way to implement all this but you guys are smart so I’m sure you can figure it out.

This would actually be a feature that would push me to pay for the Pro plan if it wasn’t offered in the free plan.

Thank you for your serious consideration.
